Being one of the highest lakes in the world, Gokyo lake offers some of the most beautiful landscapes in the world. Bring right next to huge Himalayan mountains like Everest, Cho You and Makalu, the trip offers one of the best opportunities to explore the Himalayan region. The Gokyo lake trek is one of the most famous treks that do not involve peak climbing in Nepal.
Trekking to Gokyo lake will have you going through the wonderfully beautiful Sagarmatha National Park. The Sagarmatha national park contains some of the most diverse flora ana fauna for you to see and experience due to its extremely large range in altitude.
The 12 day trek officially begins from Lukla which we reach via a short flight from Kathmandu. The flight itself is very scenic as you get wonderful views of the Himalayas from the skies. From Lukla we start walking to the village of Phakding which lies at an altitude of 2652m. Staying overnight at Phakding, we climb up to the famous village of Namche Bazaar the next day. Lying at an altitude of 3440m, Namche is the gateway to the Eastern Himalayas and is also called the Land of the Sherpas. Exploring Namche bazaar, we make our way to the famous Everest View point from where we get one of the best views of Mt Everest. Exploring nearby Namche moving up and down, we acclimatize out bodies to the thin air and spend a total of two nights at Namche.
From Namche we make our way to the village of Dole which lies at a massive altitude of 4100m walking through the mountain pass of Mong. Fauna like the musk deer and mountain goats are seen quite commonly around this area. Staying overnight at Dole, we move towards Macchermo through many settlements which will be abandoned come winter. You get wonderful views of Cho Oyu as you climb towards Macchermo. After an overnight stay at Macchermo, we climb to the main destination of our trip, Gokyo Lake, known locally as Gokyo Ri. The incredible view of the lake, which come winter gets completely frozen making way for ice-skating activities. The 360-degree view of the 8000m tall mountain peaks along with the serenity of the lake are sure to keep you mesmerized. After spending some time at Gokyo, we start our journey back to Macchermo on the same day.
An unforgettable walk past the stunning Gokyo Lakes trek adventure is for those looking for an adventurous Himalayan trek. Walk past a wild and solitary trail filled with icy glaciers and jade green lakes. Cross a high mountain pass, Renjo La, the easiest of the 3 High Passes, and climb Gokyo Ri for awesome views of Mount Everest and other 8,000 meter peaks.
From Macchermo we follow the same route back to Lukla going through Dole and Namche. The trip officially ends with a flight back to Kathmandu having been to one of the most mesmerizing lakes in the world.
Upon your arrival in the International airport at Kathmandu, after completing your custom formalities (Visa, etc), pick up your luggage and look for our representative with an Accessible Adventure Travels & Tours Trekking display board at the arrival gate. You will be transferred to a hotel of your choice. After check in, you can take rest, hang around in the city, or go for a stroll to get familiar with your surroundings; it all depends upon your interests and condition. In the evening we will organize a "Welcome Dinner" at an excellent traditional Nepalese Restaurant where you will enjoy a Nepalese cultural program as well as a fine meal. Your first overnight in the ancient city of temples & cows, probably the most in the world.
After breakfast, we get transferred to the domestic terminal of Kathmandu airport for an early morning flight to Lukla (2,800m/9,186ft), a gateway to the destination from where our trek starts. After an adventurous 40 minute flight above breathtaking green and white mountains, we reach the Tenzing-Hillary Airport at Lukla. This is one of the most beautiful air routes in the world culminating in a dramatic landing on a hillside surrounded by high mountains peaks. Here we meet our other crew members and after some packing and arrangements, we start our trek through the prosperous village of Lukla until we reach Phakding. To assist in acclimatization, we only have a short hike today. However, if interested in additional activities we can take a side trip to a nearby monastery. Overnight in Phakdingat a guesthouse. Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner Included
This day you trek and cross the river on high suspension bridges. Beyond Monjo (2800m.) is the entrance to the Sagarmatha National Park which was set-up to protect and preserve this fragile mountain environment. You then ascend pretty steeply to Namche and along the way, if the weather is clear, catch a first glimpse of Mt Everest in the distance. You can also enjoy the view of Mt. Kusum Kangaru, Thamserku, Konde-Ri and Tawache peak. You can also visit some of the village monasteries on your trails to Namche Bazaar (3440m). Stay overnightat a guesthouse. Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner Included
This is the first of the three scheduled "acclimatization" days. Health experts always recommend us to stay active and moving during the rest days instead of being idle. We either spend the day taking a day hike to Thame or visiting the Everest view point or relaxing and exploring Namche Bazaar itself. Namche Bazaar is the main centre of the Everest (Khumbu) region and has government offices, ATMs, Internet cafes, shops, restaurants, a bakery and a colorful market each Friday evening and Saturday. If we trek a few hundred vertical feet during the day, it will help us to properly acclimatize. Our guides will take us to the Tourist Visitor Center near the headquarter of the Sagarmatha National Park where we can observe an assortment of things related to the first Everest ascenders, Sherpa culture and learn about the various plant and animal life of the Everest region. Overnight in Namche Bazaar.at a guesthouse. Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner Included
We climb steeply out of Namche Bazaar up to Kyangjuma Village from where; we can enjoy outstanding views of Thamserku, Kantenga, and Ama Dablam. Most strenuous ascent of the day is obviously to pass the Mong La, a very charming place perched on the spur of Mt. Khumbila. An ancient historical Chorten stands at the centre of the settlement of Mong La. We stop at the top of Mong La to admire the grandstand views of surrounding snow-capped mountains and valleys while we have our lunch & rest the body. The most outstanding feature of the trail today is the abundance of plant and animal vegetation including wildflowers and Rhododendrons. Spotting wild animals like pheasants, mountain goats, and the elusive musk deer while on the way is not unusual. Through forests, some waterfalls and bridges, we reach Dole; a small pert place with few teahouses. We bunk out for an overnight in Doleat a guesthouse. Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner Included .
From Dole you climb steadily along the side of the valley, where the small and thorny bushes give way to scrub juniper as the altitude increases. The trail passes many summer settlements. Ahead of you are excellent views of Cho Oyu, while back down the valley you can view the peaks of Kantega and Thamserku. It’s just great. Stay overnight at a guesthouse. Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner Included .
Today you head for wonder lakes of Gokyo. As you hike, you follow a scenic trail to Pangkha & then descend slightly, following one of the melting-water Rivers which flow down from the west side of the Ngozumpa Glacier. You climb a steep rocky path inclined into the valley by the side of the glacier, passing the first of the holy lakes. You soon arrive at the second of the lakes, crossing the path which heads across the glacier to Cho La (5420m) - your route to Lobuche and Everest, later in the trek. The third lake is known as Dudh Pokhari and on its eastern shore lays the settlement of Gokyo. Walking by the side of the lake, your eyes take in the scenery which is magnificent with the summits of Cho Oyu and Gyachung Kang reflected in its emerald green waters. Stay overnight at a guesthouse. Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner Included
Early morning you go for hiking to Gokyo Ri (maximum 2 hours) that overs incredible view of Goky lake, massive Ngozumpa Glacier and Mount Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, Makalu (8481m), Cho-Oyu (8153m) and Gychung Kang (7922m). After enjoying the the views at the Gokyo Peak, trek back to Gokyo Lake to have a hot breakfast. Then trek to Machhermo, the same trail route you came through yesterday. Stay overnight at a lodge.at a guesthouse. Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner Included
We descend on a steep trail to Phortse Thanga admiring rhododendrons, wildflowers and waterfalls. We also come across mountain goats, musk deer, pheasants, etc. From Mong, we can admire a good view of Khumbila peak. On our way to Namche the view of Taboche, Ama Dablam, Thamserku and Kangtega mountains are ours to admire. After walking for a while, we reach an intersection where the trail from Sanasa meets our trail. We walk on a trail that clings to a forested slope beyond Kyangjuma, winding through several bends. After reaching Namche army camp hill, we look back to see Lhotse, the tip of Everest and Tengboche for one last time. About a kilometer from here is Namche Bazaar. Overnight in Namche Bazaar at a guesthouse. Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner Included
Finally, we return to Lukla where we started our trek, which might seem like a lifetime ago. We’ll spend some time enjoying and reflecting on the trek as a group and the personal achievement of all those who took part. We also have some spare time to explore the town some more. Overnight at a guesthouse. Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner Included
Depart from Lukla, with the fabulous flight to Kathmandu. Enjoy some final views of breathtaking Himalayan views and the surrounding landscape you land in Kathmandu. Drive back to the hotel, and you'll have the rest of the day for yourself. Thus, you can either take some rest or stroll around nearby places like Thamel.
After breakfast takes a 30 minutes exciting flight to Kathmandu. Overnight at the hotel.
As the weather condition in the Himalayan region is unforeseeable, the domestic Kathmandu-Lukla flight can be cancelled or delayed with/without prior notice due to poor weather conditions. Therefore, we had added this day in case that any such hold-up could not set you back behind the schedule. If everything goes well then you will have a free day in Kathmandu, which you may utilize accordingly or you can pick one of our tour packages and enjoy! Overnight at hotel. Breakfast, Included
The day fifteen marks the end of your entire adventure. We hope you are happy and fully satisfied with our services and expertise. Either you may choose the next package and initiate a new escapade or you can fly back home. We’ll drop you at the Kathmandu Airport; three hours prior to flight time so that, you don’t have to confront any troubles during your final moments in Nepal. Breakfast, Included
