Nepal is not only a haven for people seeking tranquility and the pristine beauty of nature, it also offers a variety of high-adrenaline activities for those wanting an amazing experience. One such exciting and satisfying high-adrenaline sport in Nepal is white water rafting. There are several high-current rivers that spring from the Himalayas and rafting in them is sure to get your heart rate elevated.
One of the rivers that are famous for white river rafting is the Trishuli River located only a few hours away from Kathmandu. Gosainkunda, a Himalayan lake located to the northwest of Kathmandu, is the source of the Trishuli River. In accordance with a myth, Lord Shiva carved three springs out of the stone mountain with the help of his trident, called 'Trishula'. The river is known as the Trishuli River because it receives its water from these three springs.
The Trisuli's rapids are typically simple to navigate, and evenly spaced out most seasons of the year. For those seeking a quick river trip without the difficulty of really large rapids but with some truly spectacular rapids, the Trisuli River is a great option. The rafting trip is suitable for everyone, including expert and novice rafters. The grade of the rafting trip is grade 3-4. Rafting down the Trishuli River is a great way to take in the unspoiled natural beauty, picturesque valleys, magnificent gorges, unspoiled beaches, and, of course, fantastic rapids that will get your heart racing. The rafting trip itself lasts 3-4 hours where you will traverse over 18 km of whitewater. There are three popular starting points for rafting in the Trishuli river. Teendevi, Malekhu, Monkey Rapid, Surprise, Monsoon, Cotton Pony, and Ladies Delight are just a few of the thrilling rapids present in the Trishuli River.
The trip is a one-day adventure where you will be picked up from your hotel in Kathmandu, taken to the rafting site, and will return the same day to Kathmandu. However, it’s possible to arrange a forward trip afterward, rather than returning to Kathmandu.
Class- 3 to 4
Duration- 1 day to 3 days (depends upon the preference of the client)
Difficulty level- Beginners - Expert
Although rafting is a year-round activity in Nepal, the best months for rafting are during the Autumn months of September through early December and Spring in March through June. These months are optimal to go since the weather and the water is neither too hot nor too cold.
The rapids during the monsoon season grow vicious and very few rafters that are extremely experienced can be seen. During the spring when snow and ice melt in the mountains is when the rapids reach a considerable volume and intensity making for an enjoyable as well as safe trip.
