The Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek route is arguably one of the greatest, if not the best, trek routes that Nepal has to offer. It is a short, 4-day trail that takes you through the Annapurna foothills to an elevation of 3,210 meters. From there, you can be mesmerized by the breathtaking beauty of the great Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges.
This version of the Ghorepani Poon Hill trek offers you an opportunity to delve into the culture and diversity of the Gurung and Magar communities in the region. You may also encounter rare wildlife such as barking deer, brown dipper, and rare species of birds and butterflies.
After breakfast, we take a jeep and ride it to Ulleri which is at an altitude of 1,540 meters. En route, You will pass some local villages such as Birethati, Sonari, Hill, and Tikhedhunga after which you will reach the Ulleri village. Ulleri village is a beautiful village that is home to the Magar community. We’ll rest up in the village and start our journey towards Ghorepani.
The trek starts with a moderately steep climb that leads you into the enchanting cool rhododendron and pine-forested area to reach Ghorepani village. Ghorepani village is located on a ridge and is surrounded by beautiful rhododendron trees. This village is inhabited mostly by Poon people of the Magar tribe and is famous for the Poon Hill view top which is an hour climb.
Early morning climb to the top of Poon Hill to catch the stunning sunrise over an array of Himalayan peaks from the world 7th highest Dhaulagiri-10th highest Annapurna with the range of peaks including the world 8th highest Manaslu with majestic Machhapuchare peak “Mount FishTail”. After enjoying exciting moments head back to Ghorepani for a fulfilling breakfast consisting of gurung bread and vegetables. Then we continue trekking uphill and downhill through the cool forest to reach Tadapani for an overnight stop.
After a hearty breakfast at Tadapani, we will start a downhill trek to Kimron Khola. On this day we will be dropping near about 1000 meters in altitude, passing through a dense forest laced with rhododendrons, bamboo, and oak trees. We’ll take a short rest stop at Chomrong village and continue our trail downhill to Jhinu Danda.
As we near the end of your journey we will visit the nearby hot spring of Jhinu Danda to melt away all our exhaustion and just relax our tired bodies in the hot water for the day.
We will continue our trail downhill from Jhinu Dandal following the plain dusty road along the Modi Khola to the massively populated Ghandruk Phedi. Along the way to Siwa/Ghandruk Phedi we will get to experience a picturesque sight of waterfalls, while the local kids of the small village greet us with a joyful, innocent smile on their faces. After which we bid our goodbyes to the trails of Annapurana and take a jeep back to the hustling and bustling city of Pokhara, to spend our night roaming around the lakeside. Thus completing our 4 days Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek.

So, let’s go through some pros and cons of the Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek to help you find the perfect season for your trek.
1. Spring (March-May):
Spring is the best season so far for this trek as you can enjoy the view of the trails painted with vibrant hues by the colorful rhododendrons glooming all over the forests which creates a delightful and picture perfect setting for trekkers with clear skies and views of nearby peaks from the Poon Hill. Monsoon or summer season is not preferred by many people. You need to carry salt to remove them. The benefit of trekking in this season is there will be less crowd and cheaper price ranges. You can also stay in drinking hot tea enjoying the rain pouring on those lush greenery and blooming flowers outside.
3. Autumn (September-November):
This is the most favorite season of trekkers and it is the best time to undertake the Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek as it offers clear skies and navigable views of the surrounding peaks with stable and dry weather. You need to make sure to book the guide in advance if you need them as this is the main festival season in Nepal followed by trekking season too which makes the trekking staff stretched to a limit.
4. Winter (December-February):
Winter season brings temperatures dropping to freezing in mornings and evenings so you need to pack layers of clothing and be prepared to trek in extreme cold weather if you are planning to go for trek in this season. This season offers a peaceful trekking experience with less crowded trails and stunning opportunities for pictures with chances of experiencing the local festivals.
In Conclusion, the spring and autumn seasons are likely to be the best season if you have an inclination for best condition with visibility of the peaks with comfortable weather.
