Known by various names like Ghorepani trekking, Poonhill trekking, and others, this trek is one of Nepal’s most popular treks. A relatively easy trek that can be completed within a week, this trekking takes you through beautiful rhododendron forests, and beautiful cultural villages with panoramic views of the western Himalayas like Dhaulagiri, Nilgiri, Annapurna I, and Annapurna South. The sunsets visible from this region are some of the most beautiful sights available in Nepal.
Ghorepani takes you through the famous scenic village of Ghandruk which is a Gurung village that will have you immersed in their culture and experience the hospitality of the Gurung people. The trekking begins from Nayapul, a short drive away from Pokhara which is famously known as the gateway to the Annapurna. From Nayapul, walking beside the Modi Khola through a trail that gets slightly steeper with time, we reach Tikhedhunga where we stay for the night.
Early morning the next day, we leave the village of Tikhedhunga en route to the village of Ghore Pani. Along the way is the village of Ulleri which offers stunning views of the Himchuli, Annapurna South, and Macchapuchhre mountain ranges. Passing through a couple of more quaint villages, we finally reach Ghorepani. The rhododendron forests seen from here are an absolute delight to the eyes.
Seeing the picturesque view of the sunrise over the vistas from Pooh Hill will be an unforgettable memory. The views of the Dhampus Peak, Dhaulagiri range, and Annapurna Range along with solitary peaks like Macchapuchere, Nilgiri, and Tukuche are absolutely stunning. After spending some time at the peak, we descend back to Ghorepani for breakfast and start our long journey to the village of Ghandruk with its historical museum. Staying overnight at Ghandruk, we leave shortly after sunrise towards Pokhara, where we get to explore the amazing city, visit numerous attractions and enjoy our completion of the trek.
Trekking the Ghorepani Poonhill Trekking is for everyone looking to have a wonderful short and easy vacation in Nepal's stunning Annapurna region. This tour is suggested for everyone, from experienced trekkers to those who have never been to Nepal. Therefore, come along with us on this breathtaking journey in the Himalayas that won't be too demanding but will definitely leave you in awe.
The best months to hike Poon Hill are therefore March through May and September through November during Spring and Autumn respectively. The days are absolutely clear for beautiful views of the mountains during these months since the weather is clearer and the temperature is reasonable, with just the mornings and nights being a little cool.
Due to the comparatively low altitude of this climb, the days from March to May are warm and sunny. A t-shirt will be all you need to wear. However, keep in mind that the mornings and evenings require warmer attire.
The greatest time to trek in the Himalayas is probably in the fall. The paths will consequently be busier. So once more, balance the favorable weather and natural beauty with the knowledge that there will be more hikers nearby and lodging is expensive.

We booked a Poonhill trekking trip for four of us in the latter week of November, and we had a fantastic time. From the boss, Himal, to the guide and porters, everyone was very helpful, considerate, and supportive from the beginning of the trip, including route planning, aircraft connections, and even trekking sticks, until the completion of the trip to Nepal. Shiva, Ramkrishna, and Shyam were the team members that joined us for 8 days. They looked after us from breakfast to dinner, from early morning to late at night. They made sure we got meals first, and they ate when we were through. During the trip, we stayed in the middle of the group to protect our safety. We miss spending time with these lovely guys, and we know we'll be back on the trail with them soon. Namaste!
