Overview

Buckle up and get yourself ready for the adventure of a lifetime to the base of the tallest mountain in the world. Known as Sagarmatha in Nepali and Chomolungma in Tibetan, Mt.Everest boasts an impressive height of 8,848 meters from sea level. So, prepare to be swept off your feet and embark on a life-changing journey of the unparalleled Everest Base Camp Trek with our comprehensive Everest Base Camp Trek with Scenic Heli Tour Package.

Our journey begins with a flight from Kathmandu to Lukla. Since weather conditions can be unpredictable later in the day, we opt for an early morning flight to ensure a smooth and safe arrival. The flight itself is an exhilarating experience, offering panoramic views of the majestic Himalayan range as we soar through the clouds toward Lukla. Upon landing at Lukla Airstrip, we are greeted by the picturesque surroundings of this unique mountain village. The Lukla Airstrip, officially known as Tenzing-Hillary Airport, holds a special place in the hearts of trekkers as it serves as the gateway to the Everest region. After completing the necessary formalities and obtaining our permits at Pasang Lhamu Gate, we set off on foot toward Phakding. We spend the night in Phakding, allowing us to rest and rejuvenate before continuing our trek the following morning. The next day we will hike to Namche Bazaar, a vibrant and bustling Sherpa town nestled in the heart of the Everest region. En route, we will start catching glimpses of Mount Everest. We hike alongside the Dudh Koshi River unveiling the captivating beauty of the region. We will pass through cascading waterfalls, charming suspension bridges, and verdant forests. Eventually, we arrive at Namche Bazaar, where we will spend two days acclimatizing to the high altitude. This strategic pause allows our bodies to adjust gradually, reducing the risk of altitude-related ailments. Namche Bazaar, often referred to as the "Gateway to Everest," is a vibrant and culturally rich Sherpa town. Here, we have the opportunity to immerse ourselves in the unique atmosphere, exploring the bustling markets and cafes. From Namche Bazaar, we will make our way towards Tengboche, a scenic destination in the Khumbu Region. One of the highlights of our journey is the renowned "Tengboche Monastery," the largest gumba in the area. After immersing ourselves in the monastery's serene atmosphere, we continue our trek to Dingboche, which is often referred to as the "summer valley." Here, we will spend two days acclimatizing, allowing our bodies to adjust to the altitude. With Dingboche behind us, our ultimate goal is to reach Everest Base Camp. Setting off early in the morning from Gorakshep, we'll have a hearty lunch before leaving our belongings at our accommodation. Then, we'll embark on the awe-inspiring hike to Everest Base Camp, where we'll have the opportunity to capture incredible photos and take in the majestic surroundings. Returning to Gorakshep, we'll spend the night, cherishing the memories we've made. The following morning, after a satisfying breakfast, we'll commence our hike to Kala Patthar, known for offering the most breathtaking view of Mount Everest. Taking our time to soak in the unforgettable scenery, we'll eagerly await the arrival of our helicopter, which will provide a bird's-eye view of the Himalayas and Everest. After an exhilarating flight, we'll touch down in Lukla. Upon reaching Lukla, we'll take a moment to celebrate the end of our remarkable journey and reflect on the mesmerizing experiences we've had. The next day, we'll board a flight back to Kathmandu, carrying with us the memories and sense of accomplishment from our extraordinary adventure.

Itinerary

Upon your arrival in Kathmandu, our airport representative will warmly receive and extend a warm welcome to you. Once you are in our care, we will ensure that all your travel requirements are attended to. We will assist you in smoothly checking into your designated hotel. Since there are no planned activities for the day, you have the option to explore the nearby area on foot or simply relax in your own rooms.

Starting our day early in Kathmandu, we indulge in a satisfying breakfast before embarking on an extraordinary journey to the airport, followed by a thrilling flight to Lukla. The flight itself is an unforgettable adventure, thanks to the airport's remarkable altitude and unique geographical location. Upon arrival in Lukla, we are introduced to the porters who will accompany us and assist with our luggage throughout the trip.

From Lukla, our trek officially commences as we make our way toward Phakding, where we are treated to awe-inspiring views of Kusum Kangraru. Along the way, we pass through the National Luminary Pasang Lhamu Memorial Gate, where our presence on the trail is registered by the authorities. Crossing suspension bridges, trekking alongside the Dudh Koshi River, and taking short breaks for refreshments, we eventually reach Phakding.

We kickstart our day in Phakding with an early wake-up call. After savoring a delicious breakfast, we dutifully hand over our luggage to our dedicated porters. Eagerly, we embark on the trail to Namche Bazaar, the gateway to Sagarmatha National Park. Along the way, we will make a stop at Manju to obtain the necessary permit to enter the park.

The initial leg of our journey consists mostly of a gentle downhill descent. The path leads us through a mesmerizing landscape adorned with blooming rhododendrons. After reaching Jorshalle, we pause for a well-deserved lunch before commencing our ascent through the lush woods of Himalayan pine and cedar.

An exciting moment awaits as we cross a prominent suspension bridge, where weather and clarity permitting, we may catch our first breathtaking glimpse of the majestic Mt. Everest. As we continue onward to Namche, we will encounter numerous suspension bridges, including the renowned Hillary Bridge, an impressive engineering marvel, and one of the highest and largest bridges in the entire Khumbu region. Our path follows the gentle flow of the Dudh Koshi river guiding us to the renowned settlement of Namche Bazaar.

During our two-day stay in Namche, we have the opportunity to acclimatize to the altitude, explore the bustling local markets, and bond with our fellow colleagues. As we venture out for short hikes, we are treated to tantalizing glimpses of Everest and other awe-inspiring peaks, a testament to the indescribable beauty of this region.

Throughout our stay at the guesthouse in Namche, we are provided with hearty breakfasts, satisfying lunches, and nourishing suppers, ensuring that we have the sustenance we need to fuel our adventure and make the most of our time in this enchanting place.

After enjoying a satisfying breakfast, we will prepare ourselves for the day's adventure. Our journey will be filled with delightful moments as we meander through the gentle slopes, relishing the breathtaking vistas of Ama Dablam and catching occasional glimpses of the majestic Everest. As we make our way forward, we will gradually descend traversing through picturesque rhododendron forests. Along the way, we will encounter a stunning suspension bridge, its graceful structure serving as a gateway to Phunki Thangka, where we will pause for a well-deserved lunch. During this part of our trek, we will also encounter remarkable stupas that hold great significance. The Tenzing Norgay Foundation has built a stupa, honoring the legendary Tenzing Norgay, while another stupa pays homage to Pasang Lhamu Sherpa, Nepal's pioneering female climber. Continuing our journey, we will reach Kyangjuma, a pivotal point where the paths to Everest Base Camp and Gokyo Ri diverge. We will follow a consistent and straightforward path that descends deeply into the Dudh Koshi Valley at Pungki Thanka. From there, we ascend the right slope of the Dudh Koshi Valley, gradually making our way towards Tengboche Monastery. As evening falls, the Tengboche Monastery opens its doors, inviting us to witness a captivating ritual. Afterwards, we will head towards our lodge for dinner and have a well-needed shut-eye.

We have an early morning breakfast at Tengboche. We walk along challenging and uneven trail paths that lead us through a variety of landscapes. We traverse across steep, windy, and dusty terrain until we arrive at Lower Pangboche. After approximately an hour's walk from Lower Pangboche, we reach Samare, where we have our lunch for the day. Descending through beautiful forests, we cross the Imja Khola and enjoy breathtaking views of mountains like Mt. Amadablam, Mt. Lhotse, and others. At this point, the paths leading to Pheriche and Dingboche diverge. As we head towards the Dingboche route, the presence of large trees becomes less frequent in the surrounding area. Eventually, we enter regions where trees are scarce. As we climb to a viewpoint, we are greeted by the sight of the Taboche and Chola Che mountains. Today's trek is relatively more efficient, as we won't lose as much altitude compared to other days. The journey continues through meadows until we reach Dingboche, which is also known as the "summer valley." From Dingboche, we catch our first glimpse of the legendary Island Peak. We will have dinner and stay overnight in a teahouse at Dingboche.

As a part of the acclimatization day, you are able to hike to the top of the Nangkartshang peak, which has an elevation of 5,083 m. The walk to reach the top of Nangkartshang peak takes approximately 2-3 hrs, and from the top, you will be able to see the beautiful views of Mt. Tawache, Ama Dablam, Island Peak, Lhotse, Everest, and Pumori. There is also the option of visiting Chhukung Ri (5546m) altitude which is a very popular trekking peak in the Khumbu Valley. After the short hike we will rest in our lodge or engage in various activities like playing cards and so on.

Today's adventure begins with a direct ascent to Dingboche Hill as we explore the surroundings of the Phirinche Valley. Our trekking guide will then lead us for one to two hours along increasingly steep slopes until we reach Thukla Dhugla, where we will have our lunch. To get to Dughla, we'll trek through a wide valley floor, passing by the trekkers' aid station in Pheriche (4240 m). As we hike to the top of the hill visible from Dhugla, we feel a sense of awe and bliss because the majestic Himalayas surround us. Additionally, we encounter numerous memorials that pay tribute to climbers who tragically lost their lives on Mount Everest. Continuing our walk, we are treated to breathtaking views of the magnificent Lobuche peak. After a short while, we will arrive at a teahouse in Lobuche, where we will take a brief rest. Then, we embark on a short hike to a viewpoint that offers a panoramic vista of the Khumbu glacier and our next destination, Everest Base Camp.

On the ninth day of our adventure, which holds great significance, we will finally reach the Everest Base Camp. We will wake up early and have breakfast before traversing rocky paths toward Gorakshep. Throughout the journey, we will be surrounded by mountains on both sides. As we traverse glacial routes and ridges, we will eventually arrive at Gorakshep, where we will have lunch and leave behind most of our belongings, carrying only a small bag.

Continuing towards the base camp, we will walk along ridges, occasionally witnessing avalanches in the nearby mountains. Although there won't be much elevation gain, the trek might be challenging due to the frequent ups and downs and the altitude. After approximately two hours of walking, we will reach the Everest Base Camp. This is the starting point for expeditions to Mount Everest. You will have ample opportunities to capture photographs, appreciate the breathtaking scenery, and enjoy your time at EBC. After spending an hour or two at the base camp, we will return to Gorakshep. If the weather permits, we may witness a stunning sunset near Everest from Gorakshep. After retracing our steps along the same path, we will have dinner and spend the night at a nearby lodge.

Today, our objective is to ascend to Kala Pattar (5545m), which provides the most remarkable vistas of Mount Everest and the breathtaking Himalayan range. We will wake up before sunrise to ensure we don't miss the awe-inspiring phenomenon from Kalapattar, where we will witness a truly stunning sunrise in the Himalayas. It is important to be cautious of altitude sickness due to the high elevation at Kala Pattar. The journey to Kala Pattar involves a demanding ascent, but the rewards are well worth it. From this vantage point, we can behold over 20 peaks, and the location offers a 360-degree view. Mount Everest appears very close, as if within our reach when we stretch our arms. Our helicopter will receive us in the afternoon. As we soar through the sky, the view of the Everest Region and its majestic peaks will leave you in awe. The sight is truly a feast for the eyes, etching itself into your memory forever. The mighty Everest, the highest peak in the world, stands proudly among its neighboring giants. Its distinctive triangular shape dominates the skyline, commanding reverence and admiration. Its summit seems to pierce the heavens as if reaching out to touch the infinite. As our helicopter maneuvers through the valleys and between the peaks, you'll witness the raw and untamed beauty of the region. The deep valleys are carved by powerful rivers and adorned with lush greenery, providing a striking contrast to the towering white giants above.

As we reluctantly depart from this mesmerizing panorama, the memories of the Everest Region will forever be imprinted in your mind. The helicopter will land at Lukla and we will head to our lodge for the last day of our trip.

As the morning sun rises, it brings about a sense of happiness and satisfaction within us. We gather our belongings and get ready to embark on our journey from Lukla to Kathmandu in the early hours. It is common for flights in Lukla to be delayed or even canceled due to the weather conditions. Additionally, flights tend to depart in the morning to avoid adverse weather in the afternoon. Once we arrive in Kathmandu and settle into our accommodation, the rest of the day is yours to enjoy. You can choose to indulge in some spa treatments, embark on a short day trip to explore the UNESCO historical sites, or simply unwind at the hotel. Take full advantage of your time in Nepal and make the most of your trip. Finally, spend the night at a hotel in Kathmandu.

It's time to say farewell to Nepal after completing the  Everest Base Camp trek. You'll be driven to the international airport three hours before your planned international flight to your next location. We hope that we have provided you with unforgettable adventures in the Everest Himalaya. If you so wish you can extend your stay in Nepal as well to tour the numerous interesting locations that Nepal has to offer.  We hope you keep the time we spent together cherished in your memory and suggest us to your friends and family for their Nepal trekking vacation. This is not “Goodbye” but as we say in Nepali ‘Feri Bhetumla’ means “Till we meet again

Terrain

  • Mountainous Landscapes: Everest Base Camp is a trek to mountain peaks so the terrain has limited sectional flat land with roughly blazed path. The terrain my create difficulties for both pilot and passengers by increasing risk of damage to the helicopter.
  • Weather Conditions: The weather condition can be quiet unpredictable in the Himalayas which may affect the journey as trekkers may need to make their way back immediately in case of sudden weather change.

Altitude:

  • High Altitude: Trekkers may feel sick due to high altitude which is an elevation of  5,364 meters (17,598 feet). The elevation of Everest Base Camp may create significant risk for trekkers to experience altitude sickness but helicopter tour minimizes the risk compared to a traditional journey.

  • The helicopter operators need to be very careful and meticulous with their work with experienced pilots aware about the weather conditions and the mountainous terrain to assure safety of the passengers throughout the journey.
  • Passengers during their journey are supposed to adopt all the instructions determined by the helicopter operators and carry all their necessary equipment to ensure their own safety.

Best Time for Everest Base Camp Heli Trek

The best time for the Everest Base Camp Heli Trek is during Spring (March to May) and Autumn (October to November). These seasons offer stable weather, clear skies, and breathtaking views of the Himalayas. The mild temperatures during these months make trekking more comfortable, while the lush greenery of spring and the crisp air of autumn enhance the experience.

In spring, blooming rhododendrons add vibrant colors to the trails, while autumn provides crystal-clear visibility for panoramic mountain vistas. These conditions are ideal for both trekking and the scenic helicopter return, ensuring uninterrupted views of Everest and surrounding peaks.

While winter (December to February) offers fewer crowds and serene landscapes, colder temperatures and snow can make the trek more challenging. The monsoon season (June to September) is less suitable due to heavy rains and poor visibility, but it’s possible for those seeking solitude.

Everest Base Camp Heli Trek Difficulty

The Everest Base Camp Heli Trek is considered a moderate to challenging adventure, requiring physical fitness and mental determination. While the trek involves long hours of hiking, typically 5-7 hours daily, the helicopter return eliminates the strenuous descent, making it less demanding than the standard trek.

The primary challenge is the high altitude, with elevations exceeding 5,000 meters, which can lead to altitude sickness if not managed properly. Acclimatization days are included in the itinerary to minimize risks, ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience.

The trails range from gentle paths to steeper ascents, with some rocky and uneven sections. Trekkers should prepare with regular cardio and strength training before the trip.

Despite the challenges, the trek rewards participants with breathtaking mountain views, cultural encounters in Sherpa villages, and the unforgettable experience of standing at the base of Mount Everest. With proper preparation, this trek is achievable and highly rewarding.

Typical Day During Everest Base Camp Heli Trek

A typical day on the Everest Base Camp Heli Trek starts with an early breakfast at a teahouse, followed by a 5-7 hour trek through breathtaking Himalayan landscapes. Along the way, trekkers pass picturesque Sherpa villages, suspension bridges, and rhododendron forests, stopping for lunch at a scenic spot.

Afternoons involve gradual ascents with plenty of breaks to capture stunning mountain views, including Everest. Evenings are spent at cozy teahouses, enjoying warm meals and planning for the next day.

The heli ride back adds a luxurious touch, offering spectacular aerial views of the world’s highest peaks.

Morning Routine: A Calm Start to the Adventure

Each day on the Everest Base Camp Heli Trek begins with a peaceful morning amidst the majestic Himalayan landscape. Trekkers wake up early, greeted by the crisp mountain air and, often, a clear sky revealing breathtaking views of the surrounding peaks. These tranquil moments set a rejuvenating tone, allowing you to connect with nature’s serenity before tackling the day’s trek.

Breakfast is served in the teahouse’s cozy dining area, with options like porridge, eggs, toast, and warm beverages such as tea or coffee. These meals provide the energy needed for the day’s challenges. After breakfast, trekkers prepare by packing essentials, ensuring hydration, and receiving updates from guides on the weather and route.

Trekking Journey: Scenic Trails and Cultural Encounters

The trekking day starts soon after breakfast to maximize daylight and avoid the harsher midday sun. The trail offers a stunning mix of natural beauty and cultural richness, taking you through picturesque villages, over suspension bridges spanning roaring rivers, and into dense rhododendron forests. Along the way, iconic peaks like Thamserku, Ama Dablam, and Nuptse form a dramatic backdrop.

Short breaks punctuate the trek, allowing you to hydrate, capture photos, and soak in the surroundings. These pauses often coincide with tea breaks at local lodges, where you can experience the warmth of Sherpa hospitality and learn about the local culture. Guides maintain a steady pace, ensuring proper acclimatization as you ascend to higher altitudes, creating a balance between progress and comfort.

Midday Lunch Stop: A Break to Refuel

Around midday, the group stops at a teahouse for a freshly prepared lunch. Meals typically include local favorites like dal bhat (rice and lentils), noodles, or momos (dumplings), offering both nourishment and a taste of Nepali cuisine.

The lunch break is a lively, communal time where trekkers relax, share stories, and recharge for the afternoon’s journey. The warm hospitality of the teahouse hosts adds a comforting touch, creating a sense of camaraderie and cultural immersion.

Afternoon Trekking: A Gentle Ascent

Afternoon treks are intentionally shorter and less intense, allowing for a gradual ascent to the next overnight stop. The trails become quieter, offering a deeper connection to the tranquil surroundings.

As you climb higher, the panoramic views become even more dramatic, showcasing snow-capped peaks and expansive valleys. Passing through smaller, more remote villages provides glimpses into traditional Himalayan life, with guides often sharing fascinating insights into the local customs and history.

Arrival at the Overnight Stop: Rest and Recovery

By late afternoon, you’ll arrive at a teahouse or lodge for the night. These accommodations are simple yet welcoming, providing a cozy environment to relax after a day on the trail. A hot drink and light snacks help trekkers refresh and recover, while the communal spaces often buzz with shared stories and laughter.

Some trekkers explore the village, while others enjoy the warmth of the teahouse and the company of fellow travelers.

Evening Activities: Hearty Meals and Shared Experiences

Dinner is served around 7 PM, featuring hearty dishes like soups, pasta, or traditional Sherpa specialties. These meals replenish your energy and prepare you for the next day’s trek.

Evenings are social yet relaxed, with trekkers gathering around the teahouse fireplace to exchange experiences from the trail. Some write in journals or reflect on the day, while others engage with guides, gaining insights into the journey ahead.

Preparing for the Next Day: Organization and Rest

Before bedtime, your guide provides a briefing on the next day’s itinerary, including the expected route, altitude changes, and highlights to anticipate. Trekkers organize their gear, ensuring essentials like warm clothing and water bottles are ready for the early morning start.

As the cool Himalayan night sets in, most trekkers head to bed early. The combination of physical exertion, fresh air, and the peaceful mountain environment ensures a restorative sleep, essential for the challenges ahead.

Permits and Regulations

  • To trek to Everest Base Camp, specific permits are required to comply with Nepal’s trekking regulations. The two primary permits are the Sagarmatha National Park Entry Permit and the Trekkers’ Information Management System (TIMS) card. These permits are essential for gaining access to the Everest region and ensuring the safety of trekkers.

The Sagarmatha National Park Entry Permit costs approximately USD 30 and is mandatory for all trekkers entering the national park. It contributes to the conservation and maintenance of the protected area. The TIMS card, costing about USD 10–20, is designed to record trekkers’ information and ensure their safety along the route.

For those flying directly to Lukla, an additional Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality Permit is required, costing around USD 20. These permits are generally arranged by trekking agencies, but trekkers can also obtain them independently from the Nepal Tourism Board in Kathmandu or at entry checkpoints.

It’s crucial to carry these permits at all times during the trek, as they are frequently checked by park officials. Adhering to these regulations ensures a hassle-free and compliant trekking experience.

Everest Base Camp Heli Trek Travel Insurance

Travel insurance is a vital component of the Everest Base Camp Heli Trek, offering financial and logistical protection against unexpected situations. Trekking to high altitudes carries inherent risks, including acute mountain sickness (AMS), injuries, or emergencies requiring evacuation. Comprehensive travel insurance that covers helicopter rescue up to 6,000 meters is strongly recommended.

Policies should also include coverage for medical treatment, trip cancellations, and loss of personal belongings. Given the unpredictable nature of Himalayan weather, insurance can also protect against delays or cancellations of flights to and from Lukla.

Before purchasing a policy, trekkers should confirm that it explicitly covers high-altitude trekking and activities in remote areas. It’s also advisable to carry a copy of the insurance policy and the provider’s emergency contact details during the trek.

Reliable insurance ensures peace of mind, allowing trekkers to focus on the adventure while knowing they are protected against unforeseen circumstances. Investing in a comprehensive travel insurance policy is a small cost for the security it provides during this journey.

Extra Personal Expenses During the Everest Base Camp Heli Trek

While the Everest Base Camp Heli Trek package typically includes essential services like accommodations, meals, and transportation, trekkers should budget for additional personal expenses. These may include drinks and snacks that are not part of the standard menu, such as soft drinks, hot chocolate, or alcohol, especially at teahouses along the trail. Prices for these items increase with altitude due to logistical challenges in transporting goods to remote areas.

Charging electronic devices and using Wi-Fi in teahouses usually come with a fee, so carrying extra cash for these conveniences is advisable. Other potential expenses include showers and hot water, which are often charged per use at higher altitudes. Tipping is another customary expense; guides, porters, and helicopter pilots typically receive gratuities for their services. Additionally, trekkers may wish to purchase souvenirs from local villages or shops along the trail.

For those requiring last-minute gear or clothing, Kathmandu’s trekking shops offer a variety of options before starting the journey. Planning for these additional expenses ensures a smoother and more enjoyable trekking experience without financial surprises.
