Overview

While most tour organizers and tourists emphasize the major tourist stpots, whether it is the scenic treks in the mountains or cultural tours of Kathmandu valley, however, we at Accessible Adventure want you to be able to experience the life of an average Nepali living in the hills of Nepal. Visiting just the mountains while staying in lodges and inns geared towards serving tourists, does not give you an accurate picture of the “real” Nepal, that Nepalese people experience. This, we think is essential to understand the Nepalese culture and Nepal as a whole.

The village of Jyamrung lies in the Diatrict of Dhadhing, next to Kathmandu at a modest  altitude of 1400m altitude around 120 km away from the city. Most of the people here are farmers who live off what they grow and collect from their animals. Here you will stay in local houses, built not as a hotel but as a normal family home. The houses are made of natural materials, clay, mud, straw, wood and bamboo make up the physical structure of the houses. Those who own cows, buffalos or goats will have a small shed right next to the house where they would be milked everyday. Oxen are used to till soil on terraced farms along with traditional tools. Much of the energy is spent grazing animals and collecting firewood for cooking also. The local schools here provide education to the children of the families in the village and are quite lively.

Through Accessible Adventures, you will be able to experience all of this. Depending on what you are interested in, you could help the villagers out with the tilling of the soil, looking after the animals and gathering milk and fodder to feed them or teaching and volunteering at the local school. If you have experience in the health industry, you can help the local health post too. During harvest season you will be able to help gather crops and cook local Nepalese delicacies for your host family. With this hopefully you will be able to experience the local life and help the community out too.

The local landscape of the village is mesmerizing too! The terraced farms in the hills, with beautiful snow capped mountains in the background make this trip worthwhile on their own. The Ganesh mountain range and mount Manaslu stand out in the vistas seen from the village.

Accessible Adventures believes in “tourism for a cause” and the community is economically supported by the tour. As a whole Accessible Adventure also supports local projects and activities within the village.
